Also called slentem. The thin, tuned slabs are struck with a mallet. The slabs are suspended over resonator tubes by a cord which is attached to supportive posts of a wooden frame. The cloth wrapped around the head of the mallet results in a mellow tone when played. Because the slabs reverberate for a long time, each sound is damped with the left hand when the next tone is produced simultaneously. Used in gamelan ensembles as a melodic instrument.
