Two or three bamboo tubes tuned to different pitches are loosely fixed in a frame so that they rattle when the instrument is shaken. A set of two tubes are tuned an octave apart. A set of three are tuned to a triad. There are two ways of performance: (1) one player holds one or two angklung for an ensemble performance, or (2) the instruments are put in a wooden frame and played by one or more persons. Originally tuned to the one of the indigenous Indonesian scales.
